Helen’s Luxury stay and amazing flavours in the Algarve

Luxury stays and amazing flavours in the Algarve

Helen’s recent trip to the Algarve was designed so we could give you lovely people a better taste of what the region has to offer.

We’ve drawn up some of Helen’s standout experiences (and a few more!) to inspire your own stunning coastline getaway in the near future…

  • Dom Jose Beach Hotel, Quarteira – Beachfront bliss, with fantastic views and direct access to the sand.

  • Vidamar Resort, Albufeira – A luxury spot with a boardwalk to the beach and top-class golfing nearby. Dinner at the Primadonna Italian restaurant was delicious… though the local spirit Medronho nearly blew Helen’s socks off (you’ve got to try it at least once!).

  • Tivoli Carvoeiro Hotel – Yearning for true calm and quiet? This hotel’s perched on the cliffs with genuinely breathtaking views. From here, a tuk-tuk ride will whisk you down to the main Carvoeiro beach – a resort that’s charming, relaxed, and a little quieter than its bigger neighbours.

  • 3HB Guarana Hotel, Olhos D’Agua – An all-inclusive hotel with plenty of activities for families, just a short walk from the little fishing village. You’ll enjoy a slower pace of life with a real local flavour here.

  • Hilton Vilamoura – Perfectly located for golfers, families, and couples alike, with fabulous food and everything you’d want close by.

 Now, let’s talk activities!

  • Beyond the golf (there are over 30 courses in the region) and the watersports (every beach bustles with amazing options), we really do recommend a boat trip to the Benagil Caves. That’s a relaxing but insightful afternoon out along the spectacular coastline.
  • And why not enjoy a traditional farmer’s lunch under the olive canopies? Locally produced dishes, tasty paired wines, and a tour of the vineyard. Yum!

The Algarve sounds pretty dreamy, doesn’t it? I mean, that itinerary in itself had us all swooning. But beyond Helen’s trip, the Algarve has heaps more to offer holidaymakers:

  • Historic towns like Lagos and Tavira – Wander cobbled streets, visit Moorish castles, and enjoy riverside cafés that feel a world away from the main resorts.
  • The food scene – From fresh sardines straight off the grill to cataplana seafood stews, the Algarve is a dream for foodies. And don’t miss the famous pastel de nata custard tarts with your morning coffee.
  • The Seven Hanging Valleys Trail – A spectacular coastal path between Praia da Marinha and Vale Centeanes. It’s a moderate walk (best with comfy shoes and steady knees), but the views of cliffs, arches, and sea stacks are absolutely worth it.
  • Markets & crafts – From pottery in Porches to bustling local markets selling olive oil, honey, and ceramics, there’s plenty of shopping for those who like to bring a piece of Portugal home.

Helen’s verdict?

“Would I go back to the Algarve? Most definitely yes! I’ve already been twice this year and will make a return visit. There really is something for everyone here – delicious food, great beaches, fabulous accommodation, and of course, the friendly Portuguese.”

📅 When to go?

The Algarve is a year-round destination, but spring and autumn are especially lovely… warm enough for beach days, but not too hot for exploring. Summers are glorious (and popular), while winters are mild and perfect for golf or quieter breaks.

If Helen’s trip has tempted you, we’d love to help plan yours.

Whether it’s a luxury resort stay, a foodie-focused adventure, or a bit of both, the Algarve is ready to welcome you.

Fancy it? You know where we are.
